RRB NTPC Exam: Know how to prepare in 2021

Hello aspirants,

The RRB NTPC released a notification to recruit 35,208 candidates for the post of Non-Technical Popular Categories in various units of Indian Railways. The RRB NTPC Exams are to be conducted from 28th December 2020. With very few days left for the examination, you must strategize and plan out your preparation for the best output.

The candidates need to undergo 4 stages of the selection process – 1st Stage is Computer Based Test (CBT), 2nd Stage is also an CBT Examination, 3rd stage is Computer Based Aptitude Test/Typing Test (applicable only for certain posts), and finally the Document Verification round for the selected candidates. The 1st and 2nd stage of CBT is common for all posts and includes questions from General Awareness, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning.

The Stage I CBT of RRB NTPC includes a total of 100 questions – 40 questions from the General Awareness section and 30 each from the Mathematics and General Reasoning. Every question carries 1 mark and there is 1/3rd negative marking for wrong answers. Time duration of Stage I CBT is 90 minutes.

The Stage II of RRB NTPC CBT Exam includes a total of 120 questions – 50 questions from the General Awareness section and 35 questions from the Mathematics and General Intelligence section. The paper is of 120 marks, each 1 mark question and 1/3rd negative marking for wrong answers. Time duration is again 90 minutes.

The syllabus for RRB NTPC Exam Stage I and Stage II CBT of RRB NTPC is similar for all the three disciplines. And here are some basic preparation tips for you to follow:

  1. Get Thorough With Syllabus & Exam Pattern
    The first step to prepare for any competitive exam is to download the syllabus and exam pattern. You can also refer to the RRB NTPC Syllabus released by Testbook.

2. Refer to good books for understanding the topics

Aspiring candidates must learn, understand and clear their concepts with the help of a limited number of good books.Schedule a particular time for revision of the newly learnt topics.

  1. Preparation for General Awareness

General awareness section includes G.K. and Current Affairs topics which require reading up to date newspapers, magazines, and weekly GK Blog online. Prepare short notes while reading and revise them later everyday before going to bed.

  1. Preparation for General Intelligence and Reasoning

To score well in the General Intelligence and Reasoning, you will need to sharpen their logical and analytical skills and learn and imply smart and appropriate tricks to ace this section. Refer to books on General Intelligence and Reasoning by Arihant and McGraw Hill publications to get command over the concepts.

  1. Preparation for Mathematics

For mathematics, candidates must first clear their basics. After that they must master short cut methods to solve them as time becomes a very important factor for competitive exams. Also knowing shortcut methods for basic questions, helps save time for some miscellaneous problems that may be asked. ‘Quicker Arithmetic’ by S.Chand is a very helpful guide for mathematics in RRB NTPC Exam.

  1. Revise Regularly

Schedule a time everyday for revision of newly learnt topics. Candidates must make short notes for quick revision. They must revise the topics they feel they are weak at and also the ones which they are absolutely confident about.

  1. Solve full length mock tests 

Devote a dedicated amount of time to solve as many full length mock tests as possible. Solving time bound mock tests helps maintain a balance between speed and accuracy. Also, practicing mock tests serve as a very helpful tool to analyze your performance – how much you are prepared and what else needs to be done.

  1. Practice from Previous year’s papers

Download previous year’s question papers from the official website of RRB NTPC and try to solve them thoroughly to have an idea about the questions asked in the examination.
